The Falcon wing-shaped pavilion of Dubai Expo !!!
The largest show on Earth – the EXPO 2020 is now live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For the first time in the world EXPO history, every participating country would be having a pavilion of its own. In today’s article let’s look deeper into the host- country’s kinetic falcon wing-shaped pavilion, the show stealer among the pavilions in the EXPO.
. The pavilion has taken the shape of its national bird, the powerful falcon, to depict the nation’s strength and heritage; and spanning around 15,000 meters, UAE undoubtedly has the largest pavilion in the EXPO 2020. The pavilion is made with hydraulic wings that can move in alignment with the direction of the sun. This mechanism protects the interior surface from the harsh rays of the sun, while also, self-serving and powering its own movement as it converts the solar energy with the help of photovoltaic cells fitted in the roof.
As the visitors enter the pavilion, they will pass by the designed spaces and there are multisensory experiences as well as integrated cinematic features showcasing the UAE’s heritage and traditions.
The Falcon-wing-shaped pavilion that serves as a symbol of UAE’s pioneering spirit, was designed by the Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava and his namesake firm. The 28 locally constructed carbon-fiber wings can be closed at regular intervals to protect the solar panels. The pavilion also includes exhibition areas, auditoriums, food and beverage outlets, and VIP lounges.
Another factor to look at that deserves all kinds of appreciation is that the falcon wing-shaped pavilion is designed and built in coordination with the theme of the EXPO 2020 – “Connecting minds and creating the future through sustainability, mobility, and opportunity.’
Santiago Calatrava architects had planned and designed the pavilion in such a way that the technological innovations and powers of mobility are brought in synchronization with the architectural and structural systems to create connections that will go in line with the theme of the EXPO 2020.
The UAE pavilion offers the viewers an exclusive voucher to explore the past, present, and future of the United Arab Emirates in one go.
From a fresh introduction to Emirati culture to a multi-sensory journey through a rapidly changing landscape, the UAE pavilion has everything in store for a dreamer with hope and vision.
